“La Bella e la Bestia”

“La Bella e la Bestia” non è una storia d’amore, ma una storia di accettazione. È molto più di una semplice narrazione che, da millenni, parla della paura atavica dell’Altro. Di colui che non è come noi o che non appartiene al nostro gruppo. Dell’Altro, lo Straniero. Lo Sconosciuto.
Un vero e proprio testamento della condizione umana, la metafora della Bestia ci accompagna sin dai tempi di Gilgamesh e dalla nascita delle religioni, perché la paura ci tiene in vita. Ci protegge sia dall’Altro, esterno, sia dall’Altro, che è dentro di noi. E, per non dimenticarlo mai, col tempo gli abbiamo attribuito un’altra caratteristica distintiva: la Bruttezza. Così, l’Altro è diventato anche il Brutto, per distinguerlo da noi, che siamo i belli. Poi è diventato ancora più tenebroso, notturno, mentre noi siamo ovviamente solari. E terrorizzati dal buio.
Con meticolosità, abbiamo così creato una Bestia per definire noi stessi, come in un vero specchio di Dorian Gray. Non solo siamo noi la Bestia, ma ciò di cui abbiamo più paura è proprio noi stessi.”
